Wobbly the lamb

One day we went hiking through the farm. We walked through the pine forest, almost killed by overgrown super prickly plants (referred to by the extremely misleading term of ‘blackberries’ - they may grow blackberries but they are evil painful things!). We jumped over a few fences (and then realised that these are usually electric fences but for some reason the current was off - phew) walked across the dry river bed to find the actual river. On our way back we saw a lamb on her back breathing very heavily. It was so hot so we guessed she was having a sun stroke. We gave her water, which she drank quickly but she could still not get up. We decided to bring her back to the farm house and try to revive her.

She weighed a ton (big lamb) but we managed to bring her back the last 500 metres by carrying her on our towel. We fed her grass and gave her more water and put her in the shade. After about an hour she was breathing normally again but it was clear she had a problem with her back legs as she was unable to get up. We kept her like that overnight, regularly checking on her. Since she couldn't really walk he named her Wobbly.

I could already see myself curing her, and having a pet lamb. But that usually only happens in movies or in youtube videos. Our little Wobbly didn’t get up. When we next got a chance we told the brothers who gave her medication but unfortunately she didn’t make it. I reflected on the irony of trying to save a lamb that was due to be slaughtered soon for meat but then on second thought realised i couldn't think like that otherwise one would never help anyone. She was cute, we’ll miss her.
