Waiheke islands

In Auckland, Waiheke island came highly recommended for its wine. Now that’s something you don’t need to tell us twice. We took the ferry from Auckland for an hour or so. The weather was beautiful for the entire boat trip but it began pouring with rain the minute we landed. (Poor weather timing has been with us lately).

The bad weather wasn’t enough to deter us though and we soldiered on, walking several hours across the island to reach the vineyards. Luck was definitely not with us and the first vineyard we chose - which happened to be the furthest away - was closed. The second one was opened and we could finally take our dripping wet coats off and sit down for well deserved glass(es) of wine and some avocado oil tasting (why not?). By the time we were finished the weather was beautiful again and we enjoyed a scenic walk back to town to have Italian food. Somehow I know deep inside we shouldn’t have eaten Italian food, perhaps sea food would have made more sense, but at 4pm it was the ONLY restaurant open we could find. So that was that and the food was delicious anyway. That’s the thing about New Zealand, the food is delicious everywhere you go. Almost.

Exactly when we walked out of the restaurant it started pouring again, and it rained until we reached the quay at which point it stopped. But by they we were too happy with our wine shopping to be bothered.
