From Udaipur to Pushkar on horseback - Day Two

As the tents were being packed up in the morning two little mice were determined to be backed with them. We tried to shoo them away but they kept running back. One even managed to climb onto the roof of the tent. It took a lot of diligence to convince her to leave. She was probably trying to hitch a ride to Pushkar.

We had a bit of a mis-hap today. While we were riding on tarmac Manjeev’s horse got carried away and charged off. Long story short but he ended up falling quite violently into a huge cactus that was lining the side of the road. He had thorns all over his left arm and on his belly. His t-shirt was torn into pieces. He also had a huge thorn lodged into his helmet. I don’t want to think what would have happened had he not been wearing a helmet. (Before you say anything, no, I still didn’t wear a helmet even though I might live to regret that one day.)

Apart from all the scratches he didn’t hurt himself too much. When I think of the traffic on Indian roads things could have got really, really bad. Not that falling into a cactus is in anyway good but you know what I mean. It was one of these things where you can’t decide whether he was really lucky or really unlucky.

He got back on to his horse to finish the day.

We upped the stakes a little with close to 50 km covered during the day. The stamina these horses have is impressive. They constantly want to go! I wonder when will they show signs of tiredness. We still have a long way to go.

We camped on a river bed, surrounded with curious children and buffaloes enjoying a dip in the water.
