Watching Kingsman

We’ve tried our best to go check out the area during our free time, of which there wasn’t much. We went to see the neighbouring town, Solvang, with Oncle Herve who came all the way from Las Vegas just to see us. Solvang is a very cute little town that is very un-American, it looks completely European and apparently is modelled on a Dutch town. The place was packed with visitors. Herve told us about this great local place he had been recommended. We went there and on the terrace saw a huge table surround by a dozen … Indians! So we crossed the world to end up in a European looking town eating next to Indians. But, the pizza was astounding, probably the best we’ve ever had!! Herve was telling us how nice it is to live in the US and right now we’re pretty sold on the idea :)

Among other activities, we did a lot of eating and drinking, since that’s apparently what the Valley is all about. The wine feels so cheap after the highly taxed wines in Singapore. We got to try quite a few local wines which were pretty fantastic. We haven’t been that impressed by the food (except for Solvang’s pizza) so we enjoy having nice food at the cottage instead. We might as well get used to it because if everything goes according to plan we should be spending a whole month here again towards the end of the year - something we are very much looking forward to.

There’s also a local cinema, owned by a family whose members man the till. I got in trouble when we went to watch 50 Shades of Grey. I asked the girl at the till if she’d seen it. She told me her dad (who was standing right there) wouldn’t let her. Turned out she was 14 years old, but I thought she looked much older. Pretty embarrassing but not enough not to come back and finally watch Kingsman which was awesome (not biased at all).

Before we leave on Sunday I really want to go check out this vintage store that’s right next to the RV Park. It’s called Pink Trash and is full of vintage clothes. We walk past every day and the owner gives us a big smile so we really ought to go. Who knows, I might find some clothes I really shouldn’t buy as our suitcases are already full but that I won’t resist because I don’t do practical.
